This step by step WordPress installation tutorial is for users who want to install WordPress (the most popular blogging software) onto their own web host.

The famous 5 minute WordPress installation is not recommended for security reasons. It uses default settings which is a nice open arms invitation to hackers.

For instance, the default username used in the 5 minute WordPress installation is ‘admin’ and the default table prefix used is wp_

The only disadvantage with installing WordPress manually is that it takes slightly longer. Anything which is fast is not good. Think microwave dinners.

To install WordPress manually, you would need to download WordPress at

And finally, you would need a FTP client to transfer files from your computer to your web host.

I would recommend FileZilla to upload your WordPress installation files which you can download for free here:

  1. WordPress is very difficult to install. It took me hours from the website. There is no way you can install that software in 5 minutes. You need to pay for a host, a database, a FTP client, etc. All this can take well over an hour. I still couldnt get it installed. I had to pay geek squad to come in with a disc and install it for me. Yes, it was that difficult. I know another guy who couldnt figure out how to install it too. Its too much steps involved. Its not a simple click and download software and youre done. You have to know databases. I dont even know why it requires a database to install it.

Very informative and detailed video. Thanks for taking the time to make it and share your knowledge.

  3. you should say to WHAT are we installing it… on our PC, or on a webhosting server. Many of us are novices and you can’t presume we already know certain steps… we don’t.

  8. You’ve made a POINT. WordPress is already a "default", many leave even default usernames and database names and prefixes and even passwords like mobile lock PINs – 1234
…. and the there comes the news: "More than 70.000 wordpress sites hacked in 2014!" :))))…not surprising at all!
