In this ninth video in my series on how to make a professional website using WordPress, I show you how to back up your WordPress database and files. As I mention many times in this video, it is imperative that you back up your WordPress website before updating! If you don’t you could lose everything. And the most important thing to back up is your database. That is where all your writing, comments, etc. are stored. This is stuff you will never be able to recover if you lose it.

After I show you how to back up your WordPress website using a popular backup plugin, I then show you how to back it up using cpanel. Cpanel is a very popular file management system used by many web hosts. If you are using Inmotion (my host — please click the link at the top if you plan on signing up with them and be sure to watch my second video in this series explaining why I like them so much), you will have access to cpanel and backing up your database will be a breeze.

After showing you how to back up your database and files, I then show you how to update your WordPress website. It’s important to keep your site up to date to avoid any security breaches. Thanks for watching!
